Not a Nightster, but replaced the buckhorns with wide glide mini apes on my son's sportster. Easier than I thought. Had to change clutch, idle, and throttle cables. Wiring reached ok.

The wiring/cabling might have reached with a little work, but decided to add the extra length.
Not very hard if you know how to solder, just takes some time, There are 20 wires that I add about 4 inches to,
which took most of the time I had last night after work.
I got that done, got the new handlebars on, and got the controls back on the left side.
Tonight I will be putting the controls on the right side, putting my new cables on, and then putting
everything back together.
So, if everything goes as planned, I'll be done when my "weekend" starts on Wednesday.

I have a 2007 XL1200N and just installed the mini apes. I kept all the lines stock. I just had to bend the **** out of the break cable. The rest of the cables I just re-routed.
