As previously mentioned, I've got a Roadking for my longer trips. Ain't taking a Sporty cross country in April. It's 85 today but I'll bet it isn't back east. [sm=smiley16.gif]

Sporties AREN'T going for any more out here. That's the thing. The seller wants to pay off their loan so they're asking too much. No one buys them at that price. They aren't getting their asking prices as ebay auction one after the other goes without the reserve being met.

The guy that's asking $7000 for his '04, hey, I'll give you $5000. It's a four year old 883. Some of the dealers around here are dropping prep feesso buying new is looking better all the time. Probably going to go that way, Pete.

I'd hate to fly out and find out it's not as advertised.
If you find something you really like... ask them to take it to a local dealer for a pre-purchase inspection... call the dealer yourself to set it up - so they know you're the customer.

I've done it with cars several times and it's been a good strategy.

AZ toy store, will check it out, thanks.

I suppose an inspection and shipping it would be another way, too. May consider.

I bet if you cruise into the dealership and show them that cash you will be riding out on a sportster at a discounted price.

You stand a better chance of getting a discount if you finance. Paying cash gives the dealer the least profit and he's less likely to discount as much as he would if you were financing with him getting a kick back from the bank.

It used to be that way many years ago but not in the last say, 15 years or more. Dealers WANT you to finance. If you pay cash, they cant get you to pay GAP. Or roll in the extended warranty into the financing"for only $25 more a month," or roll in lojack, roll in accessories, motorclothes, the maintenance plan and gosh knows what else. So your payment goes from $300 to "only" $415. You know, for "peace of mind" and to "protect your investment."

Making money out the back end (F&I)on high profit margin products is a significant source of revenue for the dealership.
