Default Question on installing Vance & Hines Straightshots slip-on mufflers......

I have a set installed on my '08 1200 Low. The directions have you install the heat shields so the inner muffler is 1" in from the edge of the heat shield. If I do this the heat shield will overlap (and subsequently damage) the OEM head pipe heat shields by about 2". I installed them so they're is about a .5mm gap between the two heat shields but this has them set about 3" from the edge of the muffler. I like the look as it makes the pipes look a few inches longer. Which is correct!

I just installed the same things last night. I thought that was kinda weird too, but it doesn't seem to do much of anything to the stock heat sheilds. I snugged em down and backed em off to see and it didn't look bad at all. Not sure why they did it that way, but either way, it does look good either way.[/align]

On mine the V&H heat shields extend about an inch beyond the inner pipe at the rear and overlap the OEM header pipe heatshields by about two inches. I think this is how V&H intend them to be fitted. Looks good to me.

I didn't over lap them either as not to scratch the stock heat shelds. On my06 1200C no problems they just stick back about 3in more then if I over laped them.
