Thanks for the review. Good info..

On a related topic, what does the indy charge you if you take a wheel and tire in there?
My indy quoted me a discounted cost of $60 to install the tire if I buy it from him.
My guy charges $30 total, for both front and rear, and $20 just for the rear. Dunno what the charge will be for front only....guess we'll find that out sometime this year.

Thanks for the pricing guides...
He told me it was $75 for a rear, but he would do it for $60. I was assuming that he meant he would take the wheel off, mount, balence, and re-install.
The problem is that he wants $160 for the tire and the best I could do negotiating was $150. This was for a 150/80/16, so I'm guessing the 160 would be a few bucks more. I've seen the 150 on-line for $125 w/ free shipping.

Yep, you can expect the 160 to run about $160 shipped. That's the best price I could find on the net delivered.

I just got back from a little 310 mile break-in run with the 160. I like it.

Note, the 160 is a taller tire as well as being wider and this mean there is a small effect on your gear ratio. Checked against my GPS, the tire provides a 5% increase in your final drive ratio. This means your speedo will measure a bit lower than your actual speed. 60 MPH actual will indicate 57 MPH. Not really a big deal unless you like to run 78-79 in a 70, banking on the fact that you won't get a ticket by not going more than 10 over.

Good to know, I had not considered that. Ohio is definately a "9 yer fine, 10 yer mine" state.

I've been running 160 Metzelers for a while now... I think on my third by now. One thing to watch out for though... If you ride two up on stock shocks, or run your preload light, the tire may rub on the rubber tunnel that carries the rear wiring harness up on the underside of the rear fender. Mine was hitting pretty badly, with stock shocks, and with Road King lowering air shocks (same length as stock Custom shocks) and ended up shredding the wiring harness, blowing fuses, etc. When I replaced mine, I ran the new rubber tunnel along the inside of the fender side wall, so no contact is possible now. I also upgraded to Progressive 412s with heavy springs, and all seems to be OK now, with no bottoming out. I'm about 235#, and the wife is about 150#. You need to visually check the wiring tunnel once in a while, otherwise you'll never notice it until your instruments, lights, etc. all just go poof at the most inconvenient time.

For those of you who don't know, you can also make this mod with an 18 inch rear wheel. I've got the Metz ME880 in a 160 mounted on an 18 inch wheel. I didnt need to make any mods to the rear swing arm or buy any additional kits. As previously mentioned, it's a tight fit, but it fits safely and it works great. Bike handles much much better than with the stock setup.
