I don't want my bike at the dealer's troubleshooting the riding season away when this appears to be happening on many of the new FI sportsters and there should be a known fix for it.
If your gonna get your panties in a knot over something as small as a single hickup during the warm up with an otherwise fantastic machine I think maybe you should rethink the whole motorcycle ownership thing, I mean really if that's the biggest worry in your life I'd love to switch spots with ya.

Charming reply. I don't believe "the whole motorcycle ownership thing" should include acceptance of a defective new bike for which we've invested our hard earned money and time. Sacrificing quality and reliability for the "Harley experience" is a thing of the past. I think HD would be the first to agree.

Just because FI harleys hiccup when first started doesnt mean its defective. Its the way the sportster is. Old design thats been updated, but still old school. Metrics are smoother running, more fuel efficient and have more power. Maybe you would be happier with a metric.

The 2008 Sportster brochure didn't mention stumbling and stalling at startup. I certainly would have taken this into consideration if it had.

Through conversations in this forum (some more helpful than others), I learned that Harley Davidson recently released a calibration update. My bike is a stock 2008 1200 Low, so I don't know how it works on a bike with modifications. Many dealerships do not know about this update so you will need to ask them to plug your bike into their computer to see if your calibration is the most current. On my bike, it changed from a code ending in "C" to a "D". They performed a quick download and now the warm up stumble on my bike appears to have been cured!

Dang it, I knew they'd eventually make Harley's dependable. Next thing you know they won't leak oil anymore either. What fun is that?

Seriously, glad to hear they got you and your bike fixed up.

Default stumble...

My 07 did the same thing - cleared up after I did stage 1 upgrade - now it only stumbles on real cold morning after sitting for 24 or more hours...we've had a couple low to mid 40's in Nebraska allready -
