I just bought a 2000 sportster 1200 its got SE stage 1 kit. My friend just bought a 1997 sportster thats stock and he kills in a race. the top of my plugs were rusty but thats al i could find. i replaced them but didnt rid eit yet anything else it could be?

 

what size 97 is it?

 

There's no guarantee our bike is setup right after the Stage-1 update. Jetted properly? etc. Is it *truly* a 1200?

 

there both 1200's both vins start as 1HD1.

 

+1 on the bike not being tuned right.

 

it could be many things, I would take it for a diagnostic, that runs a half hour tech time at the dealer. (after I changed my plugs, cleaned my filter and made sure I had good gas in it).

 

Is your buddy, perhaps, a better rider than you?

cleaned the air filter, made sure i had good gas, and new plugs. it was his first time ever riding a bike so i dont think he was better then me. lol. im sending it back to harley today to have it looked at. thanks everyone.

 

I just picked up a 01 Sportster and it runs good until it warms up and hesitates and wants to die on me, I ordered a complete overhaul/jet kit for the carb (Stage I), I have a new Intake to put on also and will put some new plugs in it, I will do this myself as I like to know it has been done and what is in the Bike. I am also going to give it a fresh oil/filter change. I had to put some gas in it and not sure how long the bike sat up.
