If anyone is buying a bike to offset the cost of gas, they are gonna be dissapointed. We've had this discussion here before, and I finally had to wake up the pencil neck accountant, that I share a body with to give the cold hard facts.
Any gas savings you get will be offset by much higher maintenance cost.
To kinda keep this short.... Just look at Tires for ONE example.

i know ALOT of people on base where I'm stationed have been getting them. Mostly crotch rockets....and their rider's who have never touched a bike before. Alot of them think they'll save on gas and stuff, but the pain in the *** base regulations for bikes cause alot of them to give it up. I see the same few bikes riding everyday no matter what, but most of the bikes sit there and rot. For me, riding on base is only done because I love it SO much. Seriously, alittle less love for riding and I wouldn't be dealing with these overprotective riding rules.

Military base riding safetyregs suck.....I put up with it for 20 years.
Compare base riding safety regs to their neglect of our front line combat soldier's safety and you can see the disconnect....The top brass is still a bunch of idiots.
Yes, I see lots of new bikes and paper tags here....Every day someone asks me "what's your MPG on that bike?"...Lots of wannbes are crossing the fence these days....and more will follow....gas WILL hit 5 bucks/gal soon.....And when it does my neighbors will show up with helmets wanting to bike pool with me.

I have noticed more and more riders here in Houston, Tx. Is it that more and more people are buying bikes for fun or is the rising cost of gas making them seek alternate modes of Transportation? What do you think?
