Default Changing Grips

I want to change grips on my bike but don't know how to go about it.
I heard some people say you have to cut the left one off and stuff like that..
Or should I just pay to have the dealerdo it?

Thanks

Depends on the year of the bike. They stopped using the glue on the left grip a few years ago. I'm not sure what year that change was made. I recently changed the grips on my 2006, no glue there. The left grip just slipped right off, it was a pretty easy process. One big tip, is to place a 3/8" piece of cardboard between the front brake handle and the stop. That will keep you from breaking the front brake light switch.

If you are going to replace with HD grips, the instructions with the grips will show the placement of said cardboard.

When I bought my '05 I changed to Kuryakyn's ISO Grips w/Throttle Boss in the first week. It is a verysimple D.I.Y. job.

I did have to cut my left grip off by simply slicing it with a utility knife and then peeling it off. The left Iso Grip (or any new one for that matter) does need to be glued on and comes with what you need. The throttle side was also a piece of cake. All new replacement grips should come with a clear set of easy-to-follow instructions. Just take your time and keep a special eye on the cable grommets when you dismantle the old throttle grip. Seriously, it is a very easy "project" and will take you about 45 minutes if you've not done it before. Once you've done it, you're a pro!

My grip was glued on on my 07 nightster. I just used a small flathead screwdriver to stick in there and separate the glued surface. I didnt want to cut it incase I need to put it back on.

My 06 1200-C was glued. I put on the same grips and did it the same as ,Thumper26, I also took a screw driver and pushed up on the side of the carb where the cable is, and let the screw driver rest up against the AC, so the throttle would stay open, that made it a lot easier to put the cable grommets back in. If you try it this way, dont lodge the screw driver in to tight and bend or brake somthing...

If you buy the Harley grips there is an instruction sheet enclosed. Fairly simple job.

I replaced mine with HD narrow o ring types. The left side had to be cut off, The right side slips off pretty easily, I took pictures of the right side cables once I opened it up. That came in handy.
