Default Exhaust shield recall in UK

I received a recall letter today, coveringvarious '06 and '07 model year Sportsters including my 883R, stating that I should take it to the dealer for fitment of a new exhaust shield (P/N 66851-07). This is apparently because, without the new exhaust shield, my trouser leg might catch fire.

I remember reading about this potential fire hazard before on this forum. Has there already been a similar recall in the US? If so, does anyone have any before and after pictures to show how different the new exhaust shield is from the original?

The 883C and 1200C are not covered by the recall, presumably because the forward controls mean the rider's leg will be nowhere near the exhaust pipe.

I didnt think of thatthank you jesus for forward controls. It gets hot enough in texas without having to worry about hot pipes near my legs.

Yea, wifes '07 1200L got the recall last summer. It's true, if you were somewhat loose leg pants, and keepyour foot on the inside of the pegthey will wrap right around the heat shield and lay on the pipe, wifes pant legwas smokin and had a big ol' hole in it - Damndest thing!! The difference is the replacement shield wraps around the front of the pipe more, can't really tell if you don't know.
