Default Changing the oil on my 03

Guys I understand how sad this must sound but I cant seem to figure out how to drain the oil on my 03 Sportster. I dont see a plug. Do I just pull the filter? Will that drain all the oil? Or am I just totally missing somthing?

There is a hose on the underside of the frame below the oil tank that dead ends into the frame and is held in place with a hose clamp. That's were you drain the oil. When refilling the tank with oil, slip the hose on, put a quart of oil in the tank, pull the hose off and let a small amount drain, the put the hose back on and tighten the clamp. According to HD, there is a slight chance for an airlock thus the reason for draining a little oil from the hose.

If you plan on keeping the bike for a while and doing your own wrenching, get a service manual at the Harley house. It's $50 but well worth it.

Some years back I read the book called "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance," thinking it would provide enlightenment on how some of the people I rode with back then could go along totally oblivious to what was all the goings on between their legs. It still escapes me.

But netebeui22, oldgeezer offers great advice. The factory Service Manual is pretty good, especially for the price, and its far better than the stuff you find at the book store. Don't leave home without it.
