Quick-Release Detachable Compact Windshield - Standard-Height

Combine the classic Harley-Davidson® windshield shape with a revolutionary new attachment system, and you have the best of style and function. The windshield mounts to the fork tubes with elegant die-cast lever-release clamps, so the windshield does not require any "leave-behind" docking hardware. You get quick on-and-off convenience, and a clean, custom look. No tools are required, and the kit includes everything needed to install the windshield. The tough, hard-coated polycarbonate windshield features traditional chrome horizontal and vertical braces. Patented.

Fits '88-later XL and '91-'05 Dyna® models (except FXDWG and FXDXT). Windshield dimensions: Overall height 26.8"; height above headlamp 18.3", width 19.7".

I hate the look of windshields, but, I have the H-D standard height quick detatch for long trips.

Do most of you have the compact or standard size?
From my observations, most riders have the standard height. I have the short compact HD quick release. The top edge of the standard height is right in my line of sight, and I can't stand that! I like looking over the shield, and use it to cut the windfrom my upper torso. Also, if I'm in rain or mist (or even road mist after a rain), I look over it and not through the poor visibility of the droplet spattered shield. This is especially noticeable at night with oncoming headlights creating a reflective prism effect on the shield. I can't see $h!t through it in those conditions, sometimes! And THAT'S not good! I comfortably look over mine without having to try to straighten up too much. But it does NOT offer all the protection of a standard height shield.

I think a lot of people feel that if you're going to go with a windshield at all, go with one that offers full protection of the standard height? I'm not gonna argue that because it makes sense. I just have my own reasons for going lower...but not narrower!

I think the standard height is 19" above the top of the cutout for the headlight to the top edge? The HD Compact low shield is 15" above the headlight cutout. Memphis Shades has one that's 17" above the cutout, and I've used that one on another bike I had. IMHO, 17" is about perfect. But I prefer the QD qualities of the HD shield. The Memphis Shades Fats is definitely cheaper than the HD shield, though, and is a good one.

I just got a H-D QD standard clear for my 07 XL 1200 Cand love it. I'm glad I got that one, and think it is worth the extra cost. I tried the lower version andit put too much wind into my face. Standard puts the wind over the helmet and I can still see over the shield. Hardware is beautiful, easy and fast to R&R.

I have another shield ona metric. It was much cheaper, works fine but the HD is much better.

I used a Memphis Shades El Paso, clamps stayed on the forks, but it was great. Just took it all off and looking to sell for short money. Used it maybe 5 times in a year, don't like the way it looks with the changes I've made.
