Buying the wife a sporster?
I am looking at buying my wife a sportster. I have found an 04 1200R. It is great shape, with a little cleaning I could have it looking like new. It has 16,500 miles. He is asking $5,000. Basically stock except air cleaner and SE mufflers. Is this a fair price and what problems should I look for with that many miles.

ditto on the good deal.
to add to what's already been said,
besides not being a beginner bike,
it's also the tallest of the bunch, so you may want to have her sit on a new one at the dealer if she's short and you're not planning on lowering it right away.
i'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and it can feel tall to me sometimes throwing a leg over it...

Sounds like a pretty good price. Check the service history - should have 1k, 5k, 10k and 15k service done. You can confirm dealer service by calling the dealer(s) with the vin. They will tehll you what service they have performed - but not what others may ahve done. Good luck.
