Simply put, bulk HP will come from boring the jugs and will be the single most HP gain you'll get. Headwork, cams, ignition all help alot too, but provide smaller HP gains individually.......but all together with jugs you can hit the 100HP easily if done right. But once you get into headwork......then it goes hand in hand to do cams and ignition, so it starts getting pricy. The route I took was jugs.......then later I put stock 1200 heads on that I got for free(I'm on a budget) plus my stock 883 heads had a cracked engine mount stub.......then I did the ignition and cams together. I could care less about dyno results, all I car about is that I can feel the power, and right now I have more power than I can use with a slipping clutch as a result. So now my next step will be upgrading my clutch probly with an extra plate kit with stroger springs to handle the extra power.

drum412, I did exactly as you have done. Im on a tight budget myself. Yes 100hp is very possable to get with that combo. Mine dynoed at 107hp with 89tq. when i finally got it done. jproges, just do what you feel good about doing and don't worry what anyone else thinks, myself included. Just enjoy your scoot.

same amount of cc's, just more power by changing out the heads. not sure by how much.. it would be nice to see numbers regarding hp/torque just doing the cylinders and pistons vs cylinders, pistons, heads, cams....

anyone?????
Well, I didn't change out the heads, but had some work done to mine. And put free flowing intake valves on it to allow it to breathe better.
I will have dyno results done as soon as I get the rings etc broken in, in about 2 weeks probable. It was only dyno'd at 40% power right now. Once it is broken in, we will do a 100% dyno and tune. Then we will see the true numbers.
I had an indy do my work who builds motors for Bonneville Salt Flats runs (and holds many land speed records with his bikes). He said doing the head work will allow you/me to get the full benefit of the 1200 conversion.

In a few weeks I'll have the dyno results, and if I can find this thread again, I will post it up.

jason- you just had the cylinders bored out, new pistons and rings?

or did you do cams and heads as well?

kinda hard to read the dyno sheet.. a bit small type, but from what i could see, you've done well.

Here is the dyno sheet from mine after it was converted...

Pretty close to the exact same numbers that Jason got.

mines in the shop right now have jugs bored and new pistons re-jet and SE ignition module I already have the pipes and SE air intake. Dealer was very good and talked about heads the cost associated with them and the amount of power you would get from them and also the reliability of the motor running under high compression. I felt he was honest and wanted me to consider all things before making a decision. I am looking forward to seeing how it feels when there done

ROB I
I got new cylinders, SE pistons, and SE carb kit (jets, spring, slide, etc)
already had SE a/c and I run Vance & Hines STRAIGHTSHOTS HS
Stock cams, stock heads, stock ignition
HP 65 TQ 70 well over stock 883
All I wanted is a little more power and still have a reliable fun scoot.

my dyno tuner tuned the bike for riding on the street )he said he could have made it a little more aggressive
you will get more power with headwork and a tunable ignition module cam but I am very pleased with the way my bike runs!

That's awesome. It's great to hear. I can't wait to get my bike out of storage!!!! I was going to go pick it up next saturday, but we just got 5 inches of snow... So, i'm thinking I'll get it the saturday after that, hopefully.

I'll definite post my impressions. Also had the indie put on 11inch progressive 412's and progressive fork springs as well. It's gonna be like a brand new bike!!
