i paid 6,500 english pounds ,roughleyabout $12,800 us dollars,for a new 08 nightster,is that good or bad.

That's about $2000 more than I paid for mine.

 

They are MSRP in the US for $10,300 USD (two tone paint). HD is listing a nightster two tone at $6995 on the UK website.Here in the U.Smost dealers don't stray too far below MSRP.I have never heard anyone gettingmuch money off a new bike unless it was a leftover from the prior year and the dealer wanted to move some product.
Here in the U.S. we are a bit out of touch with how much things cost inEurope, not just motorcycles but everything else that jacks up the cost of living....so even though the english pound may be strong to the dollar, it really has very little effect on lowering the cost of somethinglike a motorcycle.You still arebuying abike at a U.K dealership that is paying more to operate the business in the U.K.
Times are changing in the U.S., the cost ofbasic items requiredto live (food clothes housing)is skyrocketing which in turn is driving up the cost ofunnessesary items likeTelevisions, radios, video games etc...

I paid about 2k less as well. I would hav thought you would do a bit better across the pond, given the weak US dollar.

 

I paid $10,050 for an '08 two-tone Nightster. After tax,tag and title and dealer crap it was $11,000 out the door.

 

It's an invalid question, really. There's no direct correlation to exchange rates, etc on large goods like vehicles when comparing them between two different countries. Different tariffs, different base pricing structures, different importing costs (beyond just tariffs), etc. There's no direct link between what it costs here and what it costs there. Moving money from one country to another is easy; hence, currency exchange rates. But with goods & products, it's never quite so simple. That price paid in the UK is probably going market rate, just as MSRP is (now) current market rate here in the US.
