Mids for me, with highway pegs mounted up front.

When the butt gets numb, I like to move around a bit. Mids allow this much more safely.

I had mid controld on my bike when I first bought it. My knees would be killing me after a 45 minute ride. I switched to forwards and that problem was solved. I do wish I had mids with highway pegs sometimes on the longer runs to have that extra foot position option when the tailbone starts to hurt and the *** starts to go numb....
I have mid-controls 'cause that'swhere I like them best 98% of the time, but I did add highway pegs for an alternate while riding the slab. Hint: another good place I use sometimes are the rear pegs for a different position and leg relief when needed - try it, you'll like it!

My bike has Mid-controls. I have debated for several months about adding forward controls, or highway pegs. After riding a Sportster with forward controls through some twistys, I've decided to keep the mid mount controls and add highway pegs for comfort on long trips. I like the feel in the curves of the mid mounts much better.

oh, I'm 6'0".

The forward controls on the 04 & up models are not as far forward as on earlier Sportys or Dyna's. I believe they are about 3" closer. At 6'2" - 32" inseam, my knees are bent at a 90* angle with my feet on the pegs with forward controls. I can't imagine how mids for me would be anything but uncomfortable for me.

Really? I didn't know that. I was just about to comment that my forwards don't seem to "forward" to me. In looking to switching to mids, it was only going to move the pegs back like 3". Weird stuff. Thanks for the info.

First mod before leaving the shop was forwards on wife's 07L sportster. She now has highway pegs, haven't had a chance to ride with them due to weather, but I know she will like having another option for her feet and legs.

I guess it boils down to how you like to ride. I prefer forwards on the harleys while mids on the Suzuki and Yamaha.

I am 5' 7" and had the hubby put forwards on my Sporty for me. I couldn't stand having my legs straight down and I couldn't reach the highway pegs. Now all he does is complain that he can't ride it because the controls are too close. He has to sit on the passenger seat to be comfy and use the controls right. (I personally think it is funny. Now the bike really is MINE!!!!!!!!)

Sounds like you have short legs. As cHarley said, the pre'04 may be a reach for you, but I can't see it being a prob for anyone in the '04+.
Personally, I have to have the forwards (even extended mine 5").
I might put some highway pegs on the lower forks though
