Default Another Air Filter Question!!!!

Hi

I did a search prior to just slammin my post up but couldn't find an answer without buggin y'all....

So, here goes. I have a 2003 1200 Custom sportster. I do not know the first thing about the engine, air filter, pipes, etc...(can you tell I'm of the female persuasion?)

Anyway, when I first got my bike in 03...my now ex had screamin eagle pipes put on it....No, I have no clue what else they did to the engine, but know they did something - with jets maybe?

Anyway, my question is this.....would they have also put a diff't air filter in my bike? The reason I'm asking is b/c I am getting spray out of air filter onto pipes - so last night cleaned filter (with gas)....it's home drying right now.(never did this before either so if anyone has any other tips about cleaning the filter please by all means...lay it on me!!!)

If I put air filter back in and I did something wrong....well, can't just call harley and order a filter for 1200 custom b/c not sure if it's the filter that came with the bike or not...I know I can just bring the filter to my HD dealer, but you see guys.....I'M TRYING TO LEARN!!!!!

Thank you!

Have Fun & Ride Safe!

First, NEVER NEVER NEVER use Gas for cleaning. Even if you are a blonde female.

Are you sure your filter is washable and not a paper filter? If it's washable and a K&N type filer, it has to be reoiled after washing.

I suggest you take the filter to a dealer or indy shop, they will very likely be able to identify it and be able to tell you whether or not it needs to be oiled. If it's a K&N filter, pick up a K&N filter cleaning & reoil kit.

Blue sounds like a paper filter to me (can't remember the brand), and paper filters area throwaway (if it's filthy or has holes in it)...
