I have a Fulmer half lid in flat black. It not the most comfortable helmet in the world, but it was only about $35 bucks. AND DOT approved.

That's good to know....do the ear flaps come off, or are they semi-permanent? I've had my new Daytona Skull Cap out a couple of times, and it's almost there. I'll look into the Bell. Is it heavy for a DOT 1/2 helmet? Or is it pretty light? About in the middle?

It's probably been said somewhere here already (haven't bothered to read every post), but find a brand that really fits first. Then figure out which one of their styles you want. Each manufacturer makes helmets that fit a slightly different shaped head. The last thing you want is a helmet that looks good but causes pressure points. Those will cause a hell of a lot of pain after a very short period of time!
When I was out looking for my full face, it was between Arai and Shoei. The Shoei fit, the Arai didn't. So, Shoei it was. After that it was just picking the model. (I went with a proper full-face over a flip-up because I looked that the Shoei flip-up mechanism and it just didn't look very robust to me at all).

I would just say this: in 20% of motorcyle accidents, you're gonna take it on the chin.
If you are turned off by a 1 in 5 chance of eating liquid food through a straw for the rest of your life, look at a full-face or modular helmet.
At the end of the day, chicks dig guys with chins.

So, I guess it really is the riders choice when it comes to deciding how to spend the rest of their life.
