Default Opinions Needed on Price

Hey everybody, so i'm purchasing an 08 Nightster and was quoted a price OTD of $13,069.27. This does include the lojack option so that brought the price up a bit. This seems a bit high to me. I know CA sales tax is high but would like the opinion of some of the people much wiser than I on the board. Thanks for any input.

Prices vary from state to state, city to city, local dealer to local dealer Its all about shopping. The riding season is about to start, so prices are rising. Best deals are in the dead of winter.

Yeah that seems high to me. The MSRP is around $9700 in black. How does the cost break out: prep/setup, freight, tax, title, fees, etc? What ever those costs are, they are pushing the price up 30% from the MSRP.

Just consider for that cash you can get a hardly used Dyna out the door.

HD sales are DOWN domestically.

even in the summer, sales will be down,RECESSION... people are facing a credit crunch and more used bikes will be for sale, there will be less reason to shop new for alot of people this summer

the price is as high as it could be. even at 10% tax + reasonable fees, you are $1k over or + imho

if there is not a HD dealer within an hour or 2 then you might be stuck paying what they say, but there are other bikes and other dealerships.

I call it 'motolust' or 'Harley-itis' best cure I know is riding my bike or waiting for a better deal. The price wont go up, & there is always another bike.

Here in Missouri, tax is paid at the DMV. Out the door (no lojack or tax) is $10,000 with dealer prep and shipping. So, with tax, 11K plus options (security, lojack). Sounds about $1K high.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm in the LA area so there are plenty of dealers around. Calculating it out on my own it looks like they are trying to soak me for about $2k extra. Maybe my numbers are off but msrp for vivid black is $9695, tax, title, lic is $918, so that leaves over $2000 for dealer prep, lojack and the rest? Maybe I'll walk away and live to buy another day.

I'd walk away for sure. Sales are down, plenty of dealers will likely be selling cheap soon enough and besides you could buy a Dyna Superglide for that price nowadays at most dealers.

Yeah, I would say shop around. But all these guys are right. You could get a Superglide for less than 13k out the door. A nightster isn't worth 13k to me. I would MAYBE pay 8 or 9 for that bike. Once it gets over 10k, you might as well get a bigger bike too. A BRAND NEW Superglide retails at just over 12k. Give it some thought.
