Default Good Deal On '02 883C With Lots Of Extras

Was 'snooping' around Craigs List (Kansas City) and found what looks like a very good deal on a nice 2002 883C with lots of extras..

I don't know the seller, just passing along the information in case someone might be interested..

"2002 883C, excellent condition, Pearl White, forward controls, new tires and brakes, straight shot exhaust, Scream' Eagle intake/filter and Youst power tube, 3 seats and bags, clear tail light and LED bulb, chrome oil and battery covers, $4,900 or Best Offer"...

Here is the link with information and pictures;

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/611263647.html

I'm tempted to pick it up, modify the suspension, and turn it into a 'kind of' dual purpose bike.

I checked Kelly Blue Book, and they show a suggested retail price of $4,965 for a 2002 883C (in stock condition), and it looks like this guy has at least $2,000+ worth of upgrades.

(NADA shows a retail value of $3,763, so there is a big variance between NADA and Kelly Blue Book used bike values.) [8D]

It's interesting that the mileage isn't listed.

With your 'fleet" of wheels, what would you need a "dual purpose" bike for?

LoL, well, out here in the 'boondocks' where I live a lot of folks have 'dual sport' bikes for running around in the woods, riding the trails, or riding the majority of our roads which are still gravel.

Think I mentioned it before, but the county in which I live is so remote there isn't a single stop light. We do have a few stop signs, but most people just ignore them. Only 5 small towns in the county, with a total population of less than 8,000 people. Our estimated whitetail deer population is 15,000+, so we are really out numbered when it comes to '4 legged critters'....

I found a mint condition dual sport bike while down in Oklahoma a few days ago, which I should have picked up but I didn't. Tried to get in touch with the owner, but no luck so far. [:@]

But it seems a good 883 Sportster, with a highly modified suspension and some dual purpose tires, might make a good bike for running around out in the bad stuff.

I don't know. LoL....

The motor sure has a lot of grey to be a Custom. Were the 883s grey versus chrome?

OFG,
Nice looking sporty,
I always want to be selling via KBB and buying via NADA. KBB is the retail dealer "asking" price. This is an unrealistic selling price for a private seller, but a price you noften see on bikes that do not sell. (KBB trade-in is $3315 for the '02 883C)
NADA is supposedly the ave "selling" price.

I would imagine the pre '04 would bebetter for your dual sport needs, since it is considerable lighter than the '04+.
Good luck in your search

I was curious and called my Aunt, as she is the VP and Loan Officer at the local bank here in town.

Not sure how it is in other parts of the country, but she said her bank (and most here in this area) use the NADA pricing when it comes to considering individual bank loans on various vehicles. They don't use Kelly Blue Book pricing for any used vehicles.

But I think you are correct, as you could make a good living 'buying' at NADA prices and 'selling' at KBB prices.

Wonder if the extra chrome on the 883C's only applies to the 2004+ models?

I went out on the internet and found another 2002 883C that was for sale and 'borrowed' the picture. ((Hope the owner doesn't mind)).

As you can see, there is a lot of missing chrome on it's engine and sides as well..

I,m with terp84. it looks like it has too much gray to be a custom. I thought all customs where chromed out. maybe just teh 1200's But if i was looking for a "dual purpose bike" I would get a rice buner enduro, as we used to call them in the old days. honda has a nice looking dual use bike a think its a 600. not to be a traiter or any thing but hd doesnt make a dirt bike any more.
