Default taking it to the 1/8th mile friday, any predictions??

basically stock 87 sportster with recent rebuild anda 1200 conversion. slight bump in compression too.

my buddy who's never taken a bike down the track will be driving. he's probably 150lbs. i'll be racing my car soi'll tryto get a pass or two.

not sure what to expect, my car runs 6.7's, guessing 8.8's for the sportster. i know its not fast, but should be interesting.

If shifted correctly, it's gonna be faster than your car. That's my prediction.

If that's an 883 - 1200 conversion with higher compression, it's gonna be fast as **** in an 1/8th mile drag.

i'll post the video saturday.

high 7's would be nice, but don't see it happening. i've had it for a year and just have not been impressed with the power. i guess i was expecting alot more after reading on posts on here. and the wife won't let me get another crotch rocket.

here's my street car

6066er,
i don't think you've ever raced on a drag strip. if the bike runs 8.8 it should put it in the higher 13's. which would probably be ok for a newbie on a bike. a busa would be hard pressed to run a high 10 with a newbie dragracer even with alot of street experience. busas from just 2 years ago were running 10.0's with a experienced, light weight magazine driver. i don't think my car would have an issue at the track with newbie dragracer on a busa. then again, who know?

K, it won't be a 10 second 1/4...but it'll be about a 13 or so for sure. And that's just a STOCK 1200. 883 conversion has a little more punch, you may be able to get a low to mid 12 out of a conversion running higher compression.

After looking at the video of your car, your sportser won't be anywhere near as quick as your car. My computer drag racing program predicts 8.2 @ 85mph to 8.5 @ 83mph just depending on how much horsepower your bike actually makes and how good the driver is.

My car runs 8.2 in the 1/8 mile and runs 12.5 in the 1/4 but your car ran the 1/4 in 10.7. Your sportster probably runs in the low to mid 13 second 1/4 mile.

But maybe you've done more that just upgraded it to a 1200 with a little more compression ??!!

It will be interesting to see the results. Good luck and have fun.

No way a '883 to 1200' conversion is going to run mid 12's unless other work has been done to the bike.

With a good rider times around 13.0 - 13.2 would be more reasonable. I doubt if my modified 1200C (with high performance SE "E" cams, modified intake/exhaust, and an optimized A/F ratio) would even run mid 12 second ET's, and it's pulling 6 to 8 horsepower more than a well tuned 'Stage 1' 1200 with stock cams.

Friend of mine has a Softail Standard with a 'Stage 1' setup, SERT, and good dyno tune. He has run it at Tulsa Raceway Park many times and it turns certified (not seat of the pants) times in the 12.7 to 12.9 range). We've messed around and done some side by side runs through the gears, and my modified 1200C pulls on him a little bit, but not all that much.

A good 'estimate' that has been used to convert 1/8th mile ET's and MPH to 1/4 mile figures is as follows;

1/8th mile ET times 1.57 equals 1/4 mile ET

1/8th mile MPH times 1.27 equals 1/4 mile MPH

(This won't be 'exact', but should be very close)....

The 6.7 ET time you gave for your car in the 1/8th mile would be close to a 10.5 ET in the quarter mile.

The 'estimated' 8.8 ET for the bike would be right around 13.8 in the quarter mile.

no secrets on the bike, just a 1200 conversion, higher compression and drag pipes. we'll see what happens friday night. fast or slow, it will be fun.

as for my car, i'm expecting 10.4 in the 1/4 when we go back to the long track with no changes. with some timing and few extra psi i'm hoping for my 1st 9 second pass this year.
