Default Self Cancelling Turn signals

Took my bike for a short ride on saturday (I happened to be at my parents' house where it's stored for the winter) and noticed that the self cancelling turn signals did not seem to be working. Is there any way that this feature could have been inadvertantly disabled?

I wish mine would stop self-canceling. This is the first bike I have had that had self-canceling signals and I keep forgeting they do it and keep turning the damn things back on. I have made some very long turns since getting this bike.[sm=happybounce.gif]

That's because there is a 'lean' aspect to it. I'm not surewhat degree of lean it needs, but without leaning the signal won't self cancel. This is why it cancels after turning a corner, or any turn which requires you to lean over, and doesn'tcancel after a lane change. Or even a sharp turn if leaning isn't required because of a lack of speed.

this might sound like a dumb question, but, does your tach still work?

Better still, does your speedo still work?. Self canceling is also tied to road speed. If you speedo is also dead, then the pickup sensor for the speedo may be toast, (or dirty) which would also kill your self canceling feature.

That's it. Thanks for correcting me, don't know whatI was thinking. You are correct, it's the speed-o-meter that works with the signals.

I don't know how the newer bikes are set up, but my 94 is connected to a reed switch in the speedo which basically cancels after the bike travels a certain distance at specified speeds, I disconnected it because I always had the damn thing cancel right when I get into a turn. I prefer canceling the signals myself.

Yes speed and distance were the only factors for jap bikes for decades and for older Harleys, like the '05 I had. But the '07 models have a 'lean' aspect also.

I think you got gyped. I don't know the year it was implemented but my 04 1200C has a bank angle sensor that works in conjunction with speed & distance to cancel the turn signals. It also shuts down the engine if the bike is leaned more than 45* for more than 1 second.
