Default Thinking about Paint?

Well as most know ,I have a vivid Black nightster. I think the harley paint sucks! if you so much as touch it you get scratches![:@]

Anyway Motorcycles are meant to be black, So I'm thinking Keep it a black base, but to spruce it up a bit, I'm thinking fresh black with some Silver ghost flames and a silver motor Co. emblem on the tank. Flames on the front fender,Tank and rear fender. Let's not forget 4 or 5 coats of clear.

What do the rest of you think? Should look pretty good with out being to flashy?

A phantom flame (now you see it now you don't) paintjob would look awesome. If you do decide to go that route remember that the more layers of clear you apply the better the shine will be.
Unfortunately with black you will always see finescratches, dust, water spots, and inpurities in the paint easily. It's the nature of the color.

I think the quality of the Harley paint jobs is pretty damn good myself.

Sent you a PM on a good painter. Your bike looks fine...black paint jobs do show scratches in time though, just a matter of keeping on top of it. I like the subtle ghost flames myself. Mine is brandywine over a black pearl base. It shifts color in the light.

Check out the custom Nightster our dealer has. It looks much better in person than it does in the pictures. http://www.h-dog.com/invdetails.php?id=452

i think you're nuts saying the harley paint sucks. Their paint jobs are phenom. here's the thing. Black paint shows every spec of dust, dirt, every swirl mark, fine scratch, deep scratch, and clear coat blemishe. This is not just harley's black paint. All black paint is like this. for proof of this, go to any parking lot and look at every black car. The swirl marks, scratches, dirt, etc will be there.

For the record, I would like to say, that although harley uses crap seats, and shocks, their paint is awesome.

oh, and for the record. My bike is black.
