Name brand pipes or cheap straight pipes?
Looking for new set of pipes for my 03 1200C. Is anyone here running cheap straight pipes with torque cones and baffles? If so, do you feel your getting same performance as you would say if you went out and blew coin on a set from Vance & Hines? Im not cheap by any means just want to know if the differance is worth the $$$. V&H straight shots for 03 = $329.00 and can pick up 2 inch drags and throw in bafflesand torque cones for around $100.00 or so. Visually they both look the same. Just curious about the power or lack there of from each.

I think, to an extent, you get what you pay for. $329 isn't a bad price at all for a set of V&H pipes. I used to run the Straight Shots but then switched to a 2-1. I paid almost $500 for my 2-1 so IMO $329 is pretty cheap. V&H make great pipes.

The cheap pipes don't have heatshields so from an asthetic point of view they will look like **** unless you like the look of blue pipes.
Also for info on torque cone info you might want to look at this... http://www.nrhsperformance.com/tech_arcones.shtml
If you do go with drag pipes in the end I'd just get a set of quality baffles and call it a day but I'd really recommend a good set of step tuned pipes or a 2 into 1if you are lookin for performance and not just sound.

Do not get 2" drags. They are wayy to open and your bottom end will suffer dramatically. You can do pretty good with a set of 1 3/4" drags and some shorty baffles.
Your first line of defense against blueing is making sure you aren't running two lean. Your second line is treating the pipes before you put them on. First, spray the insides with high heat paint. Second, put a heavy layer of grease on the insides at the head connection. When you fire it up, the grease will burn into a layer of carbon. The paint and grease together will help insulate the pipes.
These cheapo drags on my Ironhead are about 10 years old. They only have a bit of bronzing at the head, but no blueing.
