Just to scare you?

The Nightsters (and "low" models) are way lower than the "Standard" models. I never said that his Nightster wasn't stock. I said that the lowered models are too low to be a good handling and riding machine. Nightsters, Lows, etc. I thought that was kinda clear in my post, but whatever.
Nightster:
Seat Height
* Laden - 25.3 in.
* Unladen - 26.3 in.
Ground Clearance - 3.9 in.
Sportster standard:
Seat Height
* Laden - 27.3 in.
* Unladen - 29.3 in.
Ground Clearance - 5.6 in.
I pulled a Nightster out of the parking lot and immediately took it back because it scraped just turning out of the parking lot. No thanks. Too low for actual road riding. If you're into boulevard cruising or bar hopping, I guess it's fine.

While I do love the looks of the Nightster, there was no way I could ride it long term. I have a habit of putting a bike WAAAAY over when cornering. My old bike's "Hero Blobs" (the little bolts on the bottom of the pegs) have been gone for about 100k miles. I'd actually ground the exhaust headers down.
I'm thinkin' about takin' bets on how long the hero blobs last on my Roadster. *grin* 32 degrees of cornering clearance in both directions sounds like a fun challenge.

RE: Just to scare you?
I don't scrape on my hugger and I don't even know where the closest blvd is around me.
It all just depends on how you set it up.
Besides riding one out of the showroom I've only seen shocks set to the lowest setting.
Forgot to mention, those feelers or whatever are ugly I noticed them on a new low at the dealership. Those would be the first thing to go if I bought a new sporster.

RE: Just to scare you?
i always thought they were dangerous in the fact that if you didnt notice the scraping and leaned further, they would turn into a pivot point and the whole bike would fall over mid-turn, losing all traction and you would wreck.
havent ever heard of this happening so they must be somewhat safe. and they DO have a purpose.

I took mine off. Along with the factory reflectors. Kinda the same thing , except, do they spark when they hit pavement? That would be pretty sweet. I'm still not putting them back on, I'm too busy cruising blvd's.
The dealership that I go to (Eastside near Seattle) Lowers all of their customs it seems like. And they all look great. To each their own.
Cheers

RE: Just to scare you?
My bike never had them. That was introduced on the Sporty in 2007 on certain models.
Personally, I think they look like crap, but could be useful. I hate it when I drag my toe. I'm not sure those would help with the toe dragging, but that really sucks. Guess I just need to learn to keep the foot up when in a sharp left turn, but I usually have it below the shift peg for the next shift.
