the s has oil res's on the rear shocks along with adjustable compresion///you can stiffen the fokkers right up by turning a dial....same deal on the forks...nice adjustable dials right up on top...it also had different heads with 4 plugs...neat little cowling under the front of the frame and around the headlight...at least my buddys does anyway.dual front discs up front too. but the suspension is pisser.... why does harley use such junk for shocks on all the other bikes

+! on the thanks for adding the "S" to the list. Kinda been wondering about that myself since I picked up a red pristine used '02 1200S last December and came with SE A/C stage 1, forwards and drag pipes. Still trying to decide what bars to go with, stock ones are just too cramped for me. Buddy has a set of takeoff '07 883L bars I might use.

RE: Where's the S
the "s" was not much different from the standard Sportster in 96-97. The really big difference was the suspension. It wasn't until 98-03 that the MoCo did most ofthe engine mods.
I have a buddy of mine who has a 1200S from 1996. It's nofaster than mine in a straight line but the suspension is really nice! That thing handles like a dream! If I was into running the twisties I'd buy a 1200S for sure!
egeiselman: IMO you have a pretty kick azz bike! Welcome from Metro Milwaukee!
