Default Harley vs Clymer vs Haynes vs Anything Else Available

Ok.... 6o66er has convinced me to do my own 5k service.

Now.... I need a service manual. Which one should I get and is there really any big difference between the brands?

I got the clymer and it seems to be good. I wanted to learn about sportsters before buying..... I have heard the factory manuals are best. workshop manual, parts manual, electrical manual but all three add up to $150 which I do not think is so bad. You will save that in a few hours work on your bike, and being able to troubleshoot, fix and repair makes you one with said motorcycle. I also recommend Tracy Martins, "How to diagnose and repair motorcycle electrical systems" It is the best electrical book about troubleshooting I have ever read and it isreally inexpensive (www.amazon.com).....the other manuals you can get at:

If you are just doing routine maintenance, the Clymer manual is fine. If you want more detail, the Harley workshop manual, around $60 is best. If you plan to keep the bike for awhile, go with the Harley manual.

thanks for the replies!

I would only being doing minor servicing until I am extremely comfortable with the bike. Seems like Clymer would be the way to go.
