I had a choice between the black cherry or the vivid black. I choice the Black one, I'm a sucker for that pain in the a#@ color.[:'(]

 

Picked up my '05 1200R in September. Runs great. Will do a Stage 1 this spring with V&H slip-on, K&N and re-jet. Couldn't be more pleased.

 

It's not so much messing with the computer as it is an issue of the proper back pressure to make things run right. Fuel injected bikes seem to be a bit more sensitive to this. When you drill out the baffles, they run very poorly and loose bottom end.

The carb pictured on this thread looks different than the one on the 883 I have ('01). Does the same jet tweaking apply to the carb on my bike? Seems on the lean side especially when cold.

 

i have ridden one. they are great bikes. do you really think that it would serve the interests of hd to sell a bike that runs crap

 

dlongo: I have the '05 XL1200R. It ran great right from the start. The plug readings I did after about 1500 miles indicated slightly on the lean side. I rejetted upsize a couple of steps. I added hi-flow A/C and Cycle Shack turnouts at 3000 miles and had to rejet some more. All re-jetting was a piece of cake. Just follow the great writeup here in the self-help section. TCSTD has done a wonderful job both on his writeups and referring us to other well done writeups on do-it-your-self jobs. You should be able to buy a selection of the two jets required from your Dealer for under $3 ea. A friendly mechanic at my dealer just gave me two of each jet out of his tool box saying, "here try these." Buy some more spark plugs to use when you start carb tuning. The new plugs will give you the best indication reading. Use a small magnifying glass to look at the plugs while in good light. The low-lead gasoline that we use now makes it harder to get valid plug readings than the old leaded gasoline did. ............ BC

 

An update on my carb situation, I just had the dealer adjust it for me for 45.00 they drilled out the plug adjuted the carb and punched out my stock baffles , it seem to run good. DL[:'(]
