Default Jetting question

What do you think about this configuration. Im running SE II slip ons and a max flow air cleaner. Im running a little lean, so I was thinkning of putting in a SE high flow needle jet and a 45 idle jet. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Burn

Which model sporty do you have again? What number is the SE high flow needle jet?

I went from:

42/180 stock intake and exhaust

45/190 SE AC and Cycle Shack slip-ons (mixture is set to about 1.5 turns out)

The butt-dyno says its a great deal better gooder. Haven't run it on a real dyno yet.

I don't have the manual in front of me but it has stock jet sizes for all models. One size up for each is the standard and appears to work well from everyone's reports. Although, (here's the disclaimer) some people only do the slow jet and think its ok.

My opinion, based on my own eperience...it sounds like you'll be fine. I didn't use a jet "kit". I just bought a 45 and 190 jet. Then I tweaked the mix until I got things right. Figured if the main jet was too much I could put the stock back in. I only spent $5 to find out. Turns out though it was $5 well-spent.

Ben
I have a 05 custom. On my last sporty, I just ran old SE slip ons and stock filter and i put in a 45 175 jet. I was thinking of doing a high flow needle. Ive looked at the SE high flow needle jet. The only thing I dont like about it, its not adjustable. Ill probably just rejet and call it good. My thinking with the Needle jet was I could get more horses. Im kinda reconsidering because the last time I put in a needle jet I had hell dealing with the slide diaphram. Rejetting would probably be less problems.

I have changed my needle just and it was easy i don't run lean at all i am running 45slow and 185 or maybe 190 main with SeII and SE ac and the whold job of rejeting and putting on my new SE carb top took me 30-45 minutes but i work on motorcycle carbs all the time due to racing motorcross all my life but it shouldn't be too hard.

Shift low
Would you happen to know the stock jets. On my old sporty, which was a 99, I put in a 45 175. It came with a 40 170 from the factory. i believe I read the 04 and later have a 180 main and a 40 idle. Im not sure. IF that is the case, Ill just order a 45 idle, or find someone who has one from their twin cam 88. Im waiting on my new needle to get in before I start cracking into the carb. I was just curious so I could order the right jets. I live in B.F.E.. So I have to order all my parts.

Thanks, kent

If you have a factory manual, the stock jetting would be listed on the first page of the carb section. Also raising the needle would benefit you probably just as much as changing the needle itself. It would be hard to tell the difference between the two mods.
