Default Rear Brake Locks Up

The rear brakes on my wifes 93 Hugger must be dragging. After riding a mile or so the rear wheel starts to lock up. The rotor is hot to touch. If I adjust the pedal could that solve the problem. Can disk brakes adjusted out as drum brakes can.

If it is a hydraulic brake there is no adjustment.
Check the bushing on the brake lever, if they are plastic they may be too tight. When the bushing gets hot it expands & can overcome the return springs force. The fix is to sand the bushing (increase the ID). If they manufacture the bushing too big the pedal will be slopy, can't sell a bike if the brake pedal wiggles.

Diid you get some brake fluid on the pads? I've never had it happen on a bike but I screwed up once on a car and they would lock up.

Sounds like (keep in mind it's almost impossible to diagnose a problem when you can't see the vehicle, so this is only a suggestion) the rear caliper may be sticking or freezing up. You may be able to rebuild the caliper, or just replace it. Also the rotor may have been damaged from the heat. It would be a good time (since it's all apart)to replace the pads and rotor as well.

They are hudraulic. The bike has not been ridden in several years. I willclean the system with denatured alcohol and see if the piston is sticking before I spend $ on a rebuild kit.

+1 The bike is 15 years old, if from nothing other than age, it's time to rebuild the cylinders.

As long as her BIG life insurance policy is all paid up, I guess you're good to go then.

Possible brake hose collapesing on the inside and stopping the caliper from backing off.
