Default Progressive- 412's or 440's ???

I am looking to make the upgrade myself to Progressive Shocks myself this season and
I was wondering which is the better shock.... I'll probably go with the 11" ones, because
I'd like to lower the bike a bit also....

Well if money is no object, 440's. An air shock will give you a better ride, but at $400+ vs. <$200 for 412's. Remember, the shorter the shock, the less travel it has and the harsher the ride.

Even Progressive (Justin) will tell you that the progressive 440sdo not work well unless you're about 225lbs. the valving/dampening (IAS system) does not function properly under light loads. Additionally it does not work at all for shock lengths less than 12.5"-12" therefore you basically end up with and expensive version of the 412 (they use the same springs). I spoke with Progressive about them a year ago when I was trying to find a good combo and the above is what Justin told me and not to waste my money unless I were heavier (I'm 142lbs.), ride 2-up often, or get the longer model 440s. If I were going to spend the money I would get the model 430 or 418(430 have tool-less adjustment) and look better than either the 412 or 440.

Just passing along my opinion and maybe save you some money. By the way, http://www.easternperformance.com/generally has the best price with fast/free shipping on Progressive shocks and if they don't have the model you want call/email them and they'll get it for you cheaper than most others.

For the record, I have 11.5" std. spring and they're low enough for decent handling without scrapping parts, work okay and are cheap. I've had 11", 11.5 heavyduty (changed my springs out for std.)

I went with 440's in the 12 inch version, I was told by progressive that getting the 440's in a version lower than the 12 would not be worth it.

I went with the 12' 440's and love them! Getting the lowering brackets from ebay for the 1' drop gained from the springs to end up with stock clearance, but far supperior preformance!

I'm not sure what you mean by lowering brackets... are they on your bike now... because i definetly dont want to raise the bike anymore than
it is already
