Default Factory Alarm

Is the factory alarm system worth the extra money when it doesn't even come with a siren? Or should I order my bike with out one and look into a aftermarket system? let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

My bike came with it installed. I like the fact that it has a starter kill relay in it, but if someone wants to take the whole bike they would just throw it in a truck and haul a$$ anyway. You really can't defend against that... other than strap an 80 pound pitbull to it everytime it's parked.

You can probably get an aftermarket bike alarm for cheaper and it would be just as good.

I know when I use mine I always forget to turn it off. I'm the dork in the parking lot that sits down, picks up the bike and all the turn signals start flashing (almost everytime).

I have it on mine and I guess it depends on where you park, the pager is great if its within your range of operation,I heard that its range is short, I installed the siren on mine, I ride to work and park where I can hear the siren if it goes off.

The FOB is a pain in the *** if you don't have it on you, and want to start the bike it won't start, or if you need to just move it the siren goes off.

I'de never park where I can't keep an eye on the bike so I guess if I were to do it again I would not get the alarm, but my first Harley and was concerned about theft, if they want it they will get it.

On the new models it is standard fitment and included in the price, the only difference I believe between you guys over there and us Aussies in the audible alarm is standard over here as opposed to an option over there.

It was on my bike already when I bought it but if I had the choice I probably wouldn't have gotten it. It sure would have made a lot more sense if the siren had came with it, pretty lame that you have to buy it seperately.

That must be standard Down Under as my '08 1200L did not come with it as standard.

I put the HD sys on my '05, Got it on e-bay for $111 and siren for $27, so seemed like it would be worth that much. I don't think it is worth much without the siren. I can't see someone f****ng with the bike running for cover because the turn signals start flashing. I would not pay the dealer price and labor though - must be over $500 for Alarm, siren & pager w/ instalation.

Thanks for the input guys. I cant find a Nightster without the alarm so it seems its pretty much standard but they charge you extra for it. None of the local stealers around here have the color I want so I may end up ordering the bike.

Being in Australia mine came with it. Set it off to see if how it goes, would get attention, you would hear it inside if it went off, as for stopping some blokes picking it up in a truck...thats what insurance is for. Set it to chirp as you walk away, just a bit of a derrent for anyone watching you leave the bike.
