Default 2005 vs 2006 california sportster

Ok I need some help understanding what I can and cannot do to my 2006 883R
As noted I'm located in California and my bike is a california bike. I do understand that all HD dealers cannot do any mods to my bike do to the EPA rules. So the question I have to the group If I want to do a few changes, air filter, stage 1 kit and maybe a different exhaust. When I started to look around for options the avaiability for these parts stop at 2005. Can I order parts for a 2005 will they all work on my 2006. Example SE air filter kit, same for both years? Stage 1 kit, same for both years? As for the Exhaust I believe that I have a o2 senser can I add this to a muffler that fits a 2005? thanks

Dood, you have answered your own question in my opinion. You could not pay me enough to live in California. Time to do a lot of surfing and see if they'll ship the stuff to you and do it yourself.... and hope you don't have to get emissions tested...

Good luck.

Helllo, I have a CA 05 1200 custom. My experience is there is there was little difference 04 to 06, and I doubt you have o2 sensors as those are used on the fuel injected bikes. I may have heard of a rare injected 06 model but thatmay only be deja vue, so I am thinking not. I understand the 06 mufflers have catalytic converters and the 05 do not. That does't really matter any way unless you want to drill the exhaust rather than replace. Really, you should hang out at one of the independent shops and talk it up there. If your harley dealer people are too up tight to talk mods, all the independants will. I do not know, but I bought my bike used and it had SE original air cleaner, (illlegalI believe) do not know where it was done but the guy was really conservative. I believe you can get just about anything you want on ebay if you want to install it yourself. If not, an independant will tell you if he can do it for you. Suppport them, they are usually good guys. As for exhaust, call or contact Ben at PipeDreamz. www.pipedreamz.com,He knows all the stuff. I gutted my smog (all of it) as I heard there are no DMV checks, but did save the parts just in case. My carb is jetted. My pipes are bad *** Wetdreamz. That 05 to 06 thing you are looking at may just genuine harley, if you shop the online stores, most of the stuff is 04 to 06. Even 07 has just a few minor changes. Where in CA? good luck. Guy M from Lodi. 95240

I have a 06 883. I first stared with the SE air cleaner then I put some less restrictive mufflers, then I converted it to a 1200 changeing the pistons and cylinders, then I added a SE ignition mod. The dealer can't do it, but you can if you don't tell. There doesn't seem to be any problems with the CHPs. And now it's really quick and sounds great. I bought the air cleaner and the ignition from a dealer but got the other stuff from the internet.

Buy An 06 HD service manual It shows the differance on the 06 Cal model and the rest of the 48 state models. You can do the mods on your bike that the rest of the 48 states do. I just don't no your Cal epa laws. Thats up to you.
