i was wondering what would be the best exhaust for a 06' 1200R that is really loud and maintains good power.

Kinda depends on what your really looking for. Speed and/or performance I would say a good 2 into 1 pipe setup like Vance and Hines/python/cycle shack. Looks/Chrome I would say a Bassani/Samson setup with the curl down pipes. Sound/Loudness I would say the straight drag pipes of any of the top manufacturers out there. But remember you must do carb work and air flow work as well so look into all aspects before diving in. A complete set up could be upwards of $700 for pipes alone. Then carb work and air box charges too.

I have Samson Big Guns II Rip Saws on mine. I think they sound good, but have scraped them a couple of times by leaning too far making right turns in town[:@]

My opinion is biased, but I do like the V+H straight shots HS. They are good looking and loud enough. They also exit far enough back that they do not interfere, noise wise, with me or my wife(except for her foot). But like I said, my opinion.

I have the same samsons as xlcruise and I love them! They're so loud that my buddies say they can hardly hear their bikes when we ride together.
