http://www.sportster.org/history/

it doesnt give any info about 2001 wheels, but it says in 2005, the rear wheel was redesigned to accomdate a 1 inch axle. so the swap might not work.

The bearings can also be swapped. You keep your bearings, he keeps his and just reinstall them once the wheels are exchanged. The bigger problem, is that the wire vs. solid wheel will use a different set of axle spacers and figuring the correct sizes (widths)can be a PITA. It usually involves a bit of trial and error using an assortment of spacers. Your best bet there would be toexchange spacers also. You can't install them because of the difference of the axle size but you can use them to find the correct width of new ones in your axle size. I just went through this when I changed mine from a 21" to a 19". Also expect to have to shim the brake caliper mount in/out. The axle spacers and caliper shimming will be an issue even if you buy a new wheel.

Twisty, here is a post from a member that has an 06 21" wheel for sale. You might want to PM him.

Would this be the issue also if I got a wire offof a 05' or above? Thanks for the info though.
