RE: Check this out...
Notice the A123 racing on the side of the bike? Thats an MIT group funded by Black and Decker to come up with a non flammable high discharge li-poly battery. They have been testing/selling there batteries in the Remote control hobby world for a year. They are genius's by most hobbiest.
They succeeded and produced the batteries that are cost competitive against other Li-poly manufactures except their batterieshave extreme discharge rates. An example comparison:
an A123 11volt battery can discarge at60 amps per hrconstantand 128 amps/pulse maxand recharge in 15 minutes. astandard li-poly 11 volt battery (varying by manufacture) can discharge at 30 amps per hourconstant and burst (15 sec max) at 60 amps but suffer from overheating and cell damage under high stress. The RC world uses 7.4v,11.1v, 14.4v, 18.1, 22vall the way up to 64v batteries.
Electricis overshadowing the use of nitromethane combustion enginesas the prefer power source for RC Helicopters and Airplanes because it outperforms and in some caseshas longer run times. It also sounds more realistic in the models. The downside is the batteries are expensive and the recharge times are high unless you use A123 batteries.
Just abit of off motorcycle trivia.
