RE: 2up riding on a Sportster?
I ride 2-Up all the time....Shocks/shock settings, Blah, blah. It all depends on both of you & your *****. Again with the Pro 412's/other shock debate! I've bottomed out with every different setting no matter what because it depends on the "ROAD"! Northerner's got potholes and road seem swells to deal with cause of winter, southern's got flat road....Beenall overthis continent several times, and the roads are different. [&:] I got 10"s, do you!....10" shocks that is![8D]

Ahh my misread...
Dale, I like the close quarters. I use the soft pillows for a backrest...

I meant a 900cc class bike.

900 lbs is almost 2 sportsters. Typo?

the engine, 883 or 1200 can handle it, a 900 bike is by no means small or beginner.
the sportster is a little cramped, its meant for solo riding. you can make it work if she is on the small side, but its still not for all the time. a backrest and nice seat would make a big difference.

My 883 handles that much weight. The only think I don't like is when you go to put your feet down at a stop. The passengers shoe tips rub on the backs of your legs and I tend to walk to bike to a stop more so. I tell them to rest their feet farther back on the peg and its all good. Unless they wear a 12 shoe like my OM. LOL

RE: 2up riding on a Sportster?
People are spoiled these days thinking that you need a larger bike (Softail to Touring Model) to ride 2-up for any distance....
As I've said before, just about any bike is capable of covering long distances either 1-up or 2-up..... A bike isn't the limiting factor, it's the amount of luxury and comfort required by the people sitting on said bike.
Back in the early 1970's myself and a few other purchased Big Twin 1200 Shovelhead FX SuperGlides, which were then considered the hot setup for riding either 1-up or 2-up.
But in fact they were about the same physical size as today's modern Sportsters, and put out less horsepower than the modern 2004+ 1200 EVO Sportsters.
Back then I had someone with me most of the time, riding 2-up across the country numerous times, and there was never a problem.
There are Adventure Riders that ride 2-up from Alaska to South America on 350 pound bikes such as the 650cc Kawasaki KLR650's, which put out all of 34 horsepower to the rear wheel.
Here is a picture of a '72 1200 FX SuperGlide identical to the model I owned to give you an idea of it's size.
