RE: 2up riding on a Sportster?
Would never 2up on my Nightster, don't believe they were designed for it.
I bought an 07Dyna SuperGlide to carry the wife around with ....... heavier, more room and beefier engine.
But don't get me wrong, I love my Sportster and would never dream of getting rid of it!!

I do it all the time. In addition to the Sundowner and sissybar your going to want a set of 412 Progressive shocks. The stock shocks will bottom out over almost every bump with your 2up load. You will also like the improved ride of the 412's when running solo.

I am 264lbs and the wife is 143lbs and we ride 2 up all the time no problems.
Just had to add a Sundowner to keep her *** happy and alls sweet.
Oh and stock shocks (at this stage) on second hardest setting.
Only bitch I have (apart from the one on the back) is her feet all over my V & H heat sheilds.
Will be adding passenger rear HD genuine boards as soon as I can get a secondhand set at the right price.

Even stock set up will work riding 2 up providing the average total weight is 300 or less.. Take the RR tracks a little slower and all is fine. Motor will lugg a little more and braking will take more effort. Done it for years on my stock 883 with pillow seat and back rest...
for the big guys, I wouldn't recommend it unless the shocks are improved or at least raise the stock shocks to their highest level.

Havent found an issue with it at all.
The only thing I notice is it is a bit unstable at around 90mph solo unless I drop the shocks back a bit.
Will be putting progressives on once I decide what to do with the *** end.
I am contemplating a 250 Wild Bill kit but unsure at this point.

900 lbs is almost 2 sportsters. Typo?

the engine, 883 or 1200 can handle it, a 900 bike is by no means small or beginner.
the sportster is a little cramped, its meant for solo riding. you can make it work if she is on the small side, but its still not for all the time. a backrest and nice seat would make a big difference.
