1000 mile service tomorrow...
Tomorrow, I'm taking my '06 XL1200C in for the 1000 miles service.
Before I got the bike, there was only ~800 miles on it. In the last couple of weeks, I've ridden the other 200. I recognize that my bike is about to come out of warranty in a few months. That's a bit of aconcern for me.
I haven't found any real problems with the bike, but is there anything I should ask them to look into when they do the service? This will be my first service work with my local dealer, so I'm not sure of the quality level I should expect.

I'm not big on extended warranties but with that low a mileage on the bike in your situation, I would consider picking up the extended warranty for a year or two if possible. That would give you time to put some miles on the bike and make sure there are no hidden issues that show up after a couple of thousand miles.

Honestly, I would drive it to 1500 miles and take it for your 1000 miles service. Since you have a few months on the warrenty that way you can get some miles on it and then take it in and possibily pass on the extended warrenty.

Honestly, I would drive it to 1500 miles and take it for your 1000 miles service. Since you have a few months on the warrenty that way you can get some miles on it and then take it in and possibily pass on the extended warrenty.

Because of the complete openness of the seller, condition of the bike and his meticulous record keeping, I did my own inspection of the bike and have felt pretty good about the purchase. However, since I didn't get a "professional" pre-purchase inspection for the bike, I'd rather have some trained eyes looking at it before I ride it too much more.
I'll talk to them about an extended warranty tomorrow. Most times, I believe that the best use of an extended warranty is to keep my dealer happy.
I checked my receipts from the PO. The original date of sale for the bike was July 31st, 2006. That gives me just over 6 months. I can probably rack up another 1000 miles by then.
