Default Guys with a Nightster and HD Mini-Apes.....

Are your cables all stock length + 6"
I have to order up my cables and I'm trying to get the Drap Specialties stainless "black" cables and the guy gave me a bunch of riff-raff when I told him they were +6" So I just thought I'd check since I know a few of you have already done the swap.

I'm running stock cables with mine, they work with no binding or pinching, and I'd didn't spend a small fortune on new ones.

That is good to know Bishop... Our service manager told me he thought the stock cables would accommodate a change to mini-apes. I plan on going this route also... I like the look of the black cables much better than the steel braided on the Nightster.

i got all new cables, I don't see how one could put them on with that brake line, without bending the **** outta the metal part of the brake line.

haven't put them on yet.... waiting for it to get to cold to ride.

I'll post a good front pic this afternoon. I took the bike to an indy and he bent out the metal portion of the brake line for me. You will also have to move the throttle/idle cable from inside the forks to out. The other reason I kept it stock is because I wanted to keep the black, I think putting chrome or silver braided lines would ruin the look. By the way, the HD catalog the dealers use states that additional parts are needed for the XL, but when you go to the page that it refers you too it shows that you don't need anything. I went through it with my HD parts guy and I haven't had an issue with it.

i did mine and I had to get new cables. The lines are not long enough. It makes them just barely too short. I posted the part numbers in a pevious thread so u can check how long those are but they are perfect length, see below.

https://www.hdforums.com/m_2527546/m...tm.htm#2527546

also, i think I saw a thread when I was researching of a guy that did it and had to go back to change it to the longer cables casue the stock ones were too short, but I dont have that link. Hope this helps.

So if i'm reading all of this correctly.....you can get away withusing your stock cables with the mini apes, but all you have to do is rebend the brake line. Am I right on this? I was wanting to do the mini apes, but didn't feel like spending alot of $$$$ on new cables and lines.
