The key, as was stated, is to sit on as many bikes as possible. If your wife is going to ride with you, have her sit behind you on the bikes too. Try sitting on used bikes so you can also feel the difference in the seats..that can be a big difference. And most important, get the bike YOU want and not worry about what others tell you to get. You are the one who has to ride it and enjoy it!

As you mentioned your wife might ride eventually .. The Sportster1200 might not be a bad option to pass on to her... Also is a cheaper investment with a good resale as well if decide want to move up.. But as has been plainly stated .. Is not a good 2 up Bike unless munchkins...

I like my sporty for riding solo but for two up it just wont do even for short rides.Im 6'0 210lbs and my wife is not 115lbs and I have to move so far foward on the seat for two up that it just isnt comfortable even for short rides.I havent ridden any of the BT's so I cant say which would be best.
