espace1fan,

No way is the sporty the hands down power or handling winner....I know that.

What I'm attempting to say is it takes a real bike rider to get all a Sportster has to offer.....No ricemaster can simply jump on one and even come close to doing what he is used to doing on a ricer.....But any good Sportster rider can match his riding up to the limits of the Sporty.

It takes real ***** and true skill to get everything a Sporty has to offer compared to any Jap bike.

"badass cruise"? lol..sorry i'm on pain meds..and it jsut struck me as funny...

I agree with ya Batley...The Sporty is an example of a "pure" motorcycle...

No frills...everything you see has a function..and the bike is OK at everything at a minimum,....not a racer, not a gold-couch, not a dirtbike...but it'll do anything you want as lnog as you have some skill and patience..and a little determination....

Oh yeah..doesnt hurt that the Sporty has some Retro style to it...much like the new bonnevilles and scramblers from triumph.
i bet that 250 is a blast in the right lane on the interstate

Right lane? NAH.....Itll do 70-80 mph with me sitting upright

If I tuck like flattracker...90+ isnt out of the question....

The handling is just..."interesting" and requires some faith to be close to comfortable..lol

And Kieth i was just kind fo running with what you said about people going to a bigger bike..but only because it was more confidence inspiring..I was supporting your viewpoint...

Also yeah...its ALWAYS harder to ride a slowbike fast than a bike made to go fast...fast...

Its hwell of alot more fun too!!!!!

I agree with the fact alot of people on sporties don't ride them properly. You must run them. They rev higher than any other Harley(except Vrod) I have seen riders putting around on them and it just makes me sick. Run them thats what they want.

Doh..knew I forgot one...

I'm 22 though..so I'm not exactly old enoguh to remmeber...

I'm jsut starting my research into all of the bikes of that era..specifically..the more performance oriented ones from that era...

So far I've learned..

They all leaked....and required onboard toolkits for a reason...haha

Character is what makes or breaks the everyday pleasure of a bike though!
