It will cost better than 500 bux to get the tank fixed.
$500.00 + to fix a tank? Why would you fix it?You could buy a few tanksfor that price.Good used Sportster tanks, original paint, can be had for under a $100.00 all day long.

Rather than start a new thread I am going to try and keep this one going. I am in the market and don't really know what is a reasonable price since everything I find is list above NADA value.

I am going to look at a 93 with 8000 miles front controls, drag bars and pipes. It was listed on craigslist for $4200. I am not paying that much for something 15 years old. What is a reasonable offer? or is this guy looking to get to much and I shouldn't even go check it out. He says he is selling cause he wants a Buell.

93for $4200

or

2005 for $6500?(mine for sale. Why? I want to buy a Fat Bob)

Seriously, take a look at the newer Sportsters. Rubber mounted, better machines.

Steel you are persistent and your bike is nice I would love to buy it. But it is out of my price range. I can't swing anything over $4500. So I am searching for something cheaper than that. If I can find it I am going to buy it if I can't I am not going to get a bike right now.

The reason I want the bike is because I pay $200+ a month in gas for my truck right now. So if I can get a bike for 3k to 4k I figure with maintenence, bike cost, insurance, registration, and some other things it will be in the long run saving me money. But 6 grand is really more money than I can spend right now.

Put $4k down, finance the rest.

Look, If you buy 1993 or some other older sportster, chances are good you will be sinkin' some bucks into it. Maybe as much or more than buyin' a newer bike.

Mine is sitting on consignment @ www.ridepowersports.com . You can call Chris (owner) and he can tell you about the bike. OR IF YOU ARE REALLY SERIOUS, I'd be willingly to take it to a local H-D shop to have them evaluate it. I can tell you that I have had 2 stealerships offer me $6000 on trade, so I know it's worth far more than that.

This one has been on synthetic since its first oil change, only H-D shops have worked on it, stored winters, never dropped, no issues. Carb re-jetted, SE air cleaner, SE pipes, it's all there. PLUS I will send you the original parts in case you don't like skulls (that gotta be worth a few hundred right there), original manuals, the video I never watched, spare keys, etc.

Better machines? I wouldn't go that far.I actually prefer chain drive, and solid mounted motors. My '90 is as good of a machine as any newer Sportster. It's just a matter of preference.

$3500 for an ,'01 is it? ..clean with low miles isn't terrible. If the only problem is a dented tank that doesn't sound like a bad deal at all. That's easy to replace.
Also..there's nothing wrong buyingwith an older bike either. If it's clean and running good with realitively low miles(8000 on that '93 is nothing)it's worth what you want to pay for it.Someone will always say you paid too much.I bought my '90 a few years ago ,bone stock, for a little under $3000.A few people told me it was too much and it may have been a littleon the high side, but it was a clean bike and I would be the second owner.I bought it and never regretted it and still ride it every day.If you like it and you can afford it ,I say,buy it.
