I connected a battery tender to the cycle but could not get to the negative terminal. So, I connected the negative clip to the peg bolt. How do I know it is charging. The light on the unit does come on.......
Depends on which tender I guess. Mine is a solid amber color when chargeing to 80% at that point it changes to a blinking Green and goes solid green when completely charged. Hope this helps.
I'm no expert here, but I'm not sure you have a complete circuit there. The negative cable from the battery is bolted to the crankcase and the pegs are attached to the frame. With the rubber mounted engine, I'm not sure if the frame is grounded. If you have a volt meter you could check it that way.

Do it right and get to the neg battery terminal... Will ASSURE YOU of correct "tickle" charge without overheating the charger and shortening it's life..
Did you get a harness for it? If so you can pull the battery and connect the harness so it hangs under the seat and put everything back together.
When you want to charge you just plug the tender, or charger to the plug under the seat. Quick and easy.
I also have aharness connected to the positive battery terminal and to the chassis ground near the starter. This would have zero effect on the trickle. All connectors are coated with No-Ox to keep air out of the connections.
