RE: pull back handlebars for 2005 1200C
Take a look at H-D Part No. 5614-04. This bar is intended for a FXST, but fit the XL too. I have a bad back and need to sit bolt straight up as much as possible. I changed the OEM bar on my XL 1200 R to these "mini-apes". The width is still exactly the same (31 inches), the rise is about 1 inch more, but the pullback puts my hands 1 to 1 1/2 inches further to the rear. Perfect! I did have to install a slightly longer brake line. The throttle cables needed to be rerouted to not be threaded thru the fork head. Or one could buy longer throttle cables. Clutch cable worked fine. .............. BC

Greetings, Lothar;
FYI: I replaced the stock bars on my "04 1200C last September with HD "Pull-Backs" for the same reason that you are anticipating changing. Although they did bring the grips somewhat closer to the rider, they are still not where I want them. They are also considerably wider the the stock bars and I am considering having them "formed" inward by about an inch on each side. If this can be accomplished without damage to the bars, I think they will be about right for a comfortable riding position.
I wish that there was a better way of determining just where the bars will sit before going through the expense and trouble. I had a friend hold these and several others up to the bike before I had them installed.. very hard to tell by that method.

I wanted a more leaned-back ride position too. I'm 5'8" and feel hunched over after a few hours with the stock bars. I got a set of take-off DWG mini-apes. Need new cables for the install. Not sure about the look of these bars with the stock pull-back riser. Wondering about making a riser change too. Just have to consider the wiring hidden inside there.
For now,hid the riser with a toolbag or chaps rolled and strapped to bars when I'm not wearing them.
