Default Brake fluid / master cylinder question

You don't see too much when you look through either of the sight windows on the master cylinders. With a flashlight I kind of see a brownish color in there. No movement of fluid or anything. What should I be seeing ? I did a search and couldn't find too much on it. Probably seems like a dumb question, but wanted to know if these sight windows were useless or not. I'd rather not take the cover off if it's possible to use the glass for what it was designed for. Anyway, had a great 50 mile, 38 degree ride today!! Possible snow Sunday night ![:@]

If yours is like mine, you're not seeing anything but the brownish color because the level is full. If you could see a fluid line in the sight glass you would need to add fluid. It's no big deal to pop the cover off though to check out the level, just make sure the bike & bars are level so you don't spill any fluid (not on the jiffy stand, bars straight)

Don't foget that some brake fluid will eat your paint so cover up the tank with a towel or blanket...

Thanks guys. Yeah, the paint eating factor was why I was hoping the sight glass worked, so I wouldn't risk splashing any where it doesn't belong.I was hopingthe brownish color was an indication that the fluid was full, so thats what we'll go with. Thanks again.............Mike
