RE: Why Ride a Harley?
Hi, I came from a Honda VTX 1300 C that I fully modified. The bike was a nice ride, looked and sounded great ! I planned to ride it into the ground ! A Honda Passport help Me do just that with only 18,800 miles on the speedo. While recouperating from the accident I started researching My next ride and a friend had a 04 Sportie that He thought I should look at . Well I like the look and feel when I sat on it ( Wife told Him if I rode it She would kill Him as I was still a few weeks away from My riding health ). A few weeks passed and the week they came for My X I started looking on-line for a 04+ C model Sportster . Local dealer had a fresh trade that a women owned and it was set up in a way I would probally have gone so I went to test ride it. Me, I'm not a Harley guy, or a Honda guy or a ford or chevy guy for that matter . I am a buy the best bike at the best price that I like guy that makes Me happy. So I think I can actually say I bought My 06 XL1200C for the price . At $8295 why wouldn't I ride a Harley !

Been a Honda guy all my life... From riding to racing back to riding.. Last Honda I had was a 1984 V65 Magna... real screamer for it day... but alas, it was tired... So when I started looking at a new ride I searched them all, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Harley... All make imitations of the Harley inspiration cruiser. If you don't want a cruiser you are stuck with touring or crotch rockets.... I picked the Sportster as it offered me the style, cost and ride that I was searching for. Got the 07 1200C... Not only do I love the bike, but it can be styled anyway or look one desires.
I gained more than a new bike when I bought my Harley... I gained a new found adoration for a brand. Nothing I've ever owned feels, sounds or inspires me like my Sportster. Plain ole fun to ride, I don't want to get off the damn thing. I don't ride my Sportster, I become one with it, molding together as a single unit, pursuing the exilaration and joy that only a single mass of man and machine can.
I LOVE MY BIKE... It just happens to be a Harley.

RE: Why Ride a Harley?
When I was a kid in the mid 60's the cool bicycle to have had a banana seat with a sissy bar and high buckhorn type handlebars. Some guys would chop and stretch the forks, all to make them look like the bikers in 'The Wild Ones' and 'Easy Rider'. When I lived in LA I'd see the real Hells Angelsrumble down Hawthorn Blvd, watching in awe as it took 15 minutes for the thunderous parade to roll by. Whengrew up I got a 1982 Honda V45 Magna because that's allI could afford with a wife, 2 kids, mortgageand the whole 9 yards but it kinda looked like a Sporty if you looked fast. It was quicker, smoother, a very comfortable ride. I did a lot of riding on it but something was missing and when I rode with friends who had Harleys it was understood that I ride at the back of the pack. When I finally got my Sporty I felt like that kid from the 60's and whenI ride people wave and when I stop people check it out and other bikers want to chat, and I feel like I am part of something. I grew up with the image of Harley as the iconic American motorcycle and I get a rush and a big $#it eatin' grin every time I ride. I love waving to little kids whenI ride becauseI remember how I felt when it was me.

One of my western colleagues (I live in Singapore) has a Ducati and another has a Honda. Nobody ... and I mean nobody in the office has ever said a word about those bikes. My Harley gets mentioned regularly. "Oh, he rides a Harley". "Have you seen his Harley?". "Ahh, he's different to the other guys, he rides a Harley".
I've also returned to my parked-up bike on numerous occasions, only to find another biker standing staring at it, before striking up a conversation when I put the key in the ignition.
There is simply something about a Harley that people just like.

There's certain things that just make a Harley more appealing then some of the other makes. My wife had a V-star and now she has Suzuki V-strom, now both of these bikes were well made and run excellent. I have fun riding the V-strom when I take it out. For me however when I stand back and look at the Harley's compared to anyother bike they just look like they are put together better. There's something to be said for the craftsmanship that goes into building a motorcycle, to me each Harley looks like no other even when they're bone stock. You're just not going to find that with other makes.
