Default Torx sizes

I don't have many torx tools. I need to know what size driver bit I need to pull the side plates off the rear fender so I can remove the sissy bar that came on my bike. Anyone know what size those bolt heads are? Also, any general recommendos on a range of torx sizes I'll want to acquire for general maintenance and assorted fooling around with the bike?

Thank you.

I'm not sure about your side plates but the following bits will take care of what you need for your bike service.
T15 T20 T25 T27 T30 T40 T45 T50.

Note all of the above are usually available in a 7 piece set (sears craftsman) except the T27. For some reason this size is not included in most sets and usually you have to purchase it seperatly. You will need it. Example: the derby cover takes a T27.

I haven't looked at the bolts you are talking about, but some of the bolts, like the brake calipers are metric which only a twelve point socket with fit. If it is one of these you will round the head with a torx.

Yeah, I haven't yet figured out why there needs to be standard hex head, metric and torx bolts all on the same bike... but I'm not that bright. I'm sure there's a reason.

Unfortunately, your "made in the USA" Harley comes from all over the globe. You will need both SAE & Metric, sockets, open/closed combo wrenches and hex/allen wrenches, in addition to the torx wrenches to work on the bike. [:@]

It really does $uck but it's much better to invest in the tools than pay the dealer the $$$. The tool investment will pay off quickly.

That makes sense. It is a bit maddening to look at the handlebar and see both SAE Allen and Torx bolts right next to each other, but it's a small price to pay, I suppose.
