RE: opinions on 883/1200 conversion
I never understood it when people worry that they shouldn't do something to their bike becausethey might not get out of it whatthey put in. In that case no one should buy anything for their bike. No mirrors, grips or anything else because you most likely will never get out of it what you put in and that is including buying the bike itself when new.
If you bought the bike to sell then I can see worrying about what it is worth. Myself, well I buy bikes to ride and customizethe wayI like not to sell them so I don't worry about those things.
It would more than likely be cheaper to have the conversion done than sell your 883 and go buy another 20031200 so likeI said before, you should go for it if that's what you want.

Mine is an 02' w/1200 conversion. It's been about 3000 mi. since my last oil change and my oil level is exactly where it was when I changed it. It doesn't leak or consume any oil whatsoever. Stage one was done and has new cams. Lets just say if you're in the power band on this scoot, and you drop the hammer, you'd better be hangin on. More power than I really need. Reliability is very good, no problems at all.
I personally don't give a rats about the money I put into my 883. I paid a relatively low price and paid cash. In the meantime I have a bike that is a real kick to ride. Will I get my money back, probably not, but there are many that finance their bikes and never get the interest back and have nothing to show for that money. IMO, don't worry about it, it's your money and bike, do what you like.
Go for it. You won't regret it.

Hell I'm kickin around doin the zippers Super hammer 1200 Kit on mine. I have a basically stock 1200c already but it sure would be nice to have 95 HP and close to 90 lb/ft. of torque at the twist of a grip. I'll never get my money outta it sellin it butI don't plan to sell anyhow.

I've looked at that kit, sounds like a sweet kit. Go for it and give us all a review. (not that i need a conversion, but I'd find it interesting)

I was going through same dilemna. Got different prices from different HD dealerships from $1400 to $2000 plus dollers. Some kits from HD come with heads SE air cleaner, heavy duty clutch spring. Some dont . I was going to use an HD shop as to keep my warranty. My bike is a 2007 883L. I also wanted forward controls another3 to 4 hundered dollers. I likemy 883L so I decided to look for a1200C. I found a 2006 1200C 2600miles for $6,500 whichI bought. I can always sell one latter if I have to . It was dollers and sense to me. Plus both bikes have warranties on them.

RE: opinions on 883/1200 conversion
I just got my converted 883/1200 back a month ago and would do it all over again. I use it to ride to work 80 miles round trip and noticed enough difference to make me happy.
Before I would run 70 and the vibration was so bad my mirrors would come loose. Now I run 70 and it likes that range in 5th gear.
I have no intentions of selling but will be adding a roadking to the family in a few months for the longer rides.
