UP DATE Porgressive shock 1/2" more travel smoother ride?
'Original Post'
If all works out, tomorrow about 10:00 AM , I will own a black 06 1200-C.
I would like to get Progressive's on the frount and back. My concern is the rear shocks. First of all, I dont know If I should get heavy duty orreg. shocks.I read some place that 11.5" is the standard height on a 1200-C, is that right? I want it to ride a smooth as it can, with out bottoming out hard. I'm about 210 lbs. Riding 2-up is not a concern. So if 11.5 is right, and I go up to 12" shock, would that give me 1/2" more travel? If I have a extra 1/2 " then couldn't I set the shocks a notch down from what I would need to on a standard height, and not bottom out more?. I think Im starting to babble on.
What I'm trying to ask, is the more travel the shock has, the soffter I can set it, with out bottoming out, right or wrong?... Thanks.

I cant remember his exact wording but this is close.

I got a e-mail today from Porgressive Tech Support. He said at 200-210 lbs, If I want the smoothest ride I can get, I should get the 12" Standard. Hesaidno need forHeavy Dudy shocks for solo riding only, and if a smooth ride is my main concern. He said it would be o.k. for 2-up riding if I need to, for short rides with the spring set up to hard.
So, Iguess thats the way I will go....

Congrats, I gues you bought the Sportster.
You will like the ride from your Progressive shocks. At 210 you are probably ok either way. I am 225 (prob over 250 w/ all gear sometimes) and went with the 412 12"HD - I have it on 2nd preload and it is a great ride, not harsh at all, not even close to bottoming out, even on the overpass seams that would rattle my fillings w/ stockers. Are you also getting the Progressive fork springs? Definitely recomended

I got myself down to 185 lbs, for now.
Yes on the Fork Springs. I'm not sure about what size to get on them now,.I have seen on on this site most every one gets the Lowering Kit. Can they be set at stock height.? I think I would be o.k. with a 1" drop, but no more then that.
If any one has advice on fork springs, I'm all ears...Thanks....
