Default Removing battery from 08 Nightster

Directions on battery cover show negative cable on the side of the battery. It is not there! Is this the standard Sporty sitcker they put on all the covers? Where is the negative cable mounted on the 08 Nightster...can anyone help? I just can't wait to take on the Fuelpak nightmare I've been reading so much about.

You don't want to disconnect the ground wire from the battery itself. Its a lot easier to disconect the ground wire were it bolts to the engine. There is cable running down the right side of the battery to the engine. Its kinda hard to explain where it is but you can see it if you look behind the rear cylinder and the frame. Your user guide should show you where it is.

The guide and the pictures as well as the sticker on the inside of the cover show the neg wire running down the right side of the battery. It just isn't there. It's somewhere completely on the other side which cannot be seen. This is why I'm wondering if the 08's are different from the 07's. I'm perplexed. I've replaced the exhaust with the V&H Shortshots with no problem. I've done the derby cover, timer cover, fork stem cover and directional lenses- no problem. I've practically rebuilt my Toyota 22R 4X4 and I can't get a battery out of a motorcycle!! I was, however, very tired last night. I'll look again with wider eyes.

the cable is on the air intake (throttle) side of the bike. the cable attaches to a stud behind the rear cylinder. it is fairly close to the drive belt. just remove the nut and then pull the battery out. don't disconnect the cable from the battery.

it is fairly easy

It was really easy now that I see where the wire is. The diagram on the sticker inside the cover is not for an 08 Nightster. Thank you kylant.

Before attemtping to install the fuel pak, You can go to the Vanca and Hines Website and watch a video to assist you on the install.

I did not follow the video to a tee, but it did provide usefull information. I had to stragecally crush the fuel pak under the seat. and i was able to put the fuel pak on top of the battery.

Good Luck.

Thanks bRon. After watching the video (joke- no way the plugs will fit above the battery) and reading all of the posts about installation, I really had no problem with the install. I think I got lucky...just being patient. However, when all was said and done, I turned the key and the damn thing doesn't work. No lights whatsoever! Took the seat off, checked the connections, wiring, etc. and still nothing. WTF? Back in the box she goes.

Took the 08 to Harley and they remapped it for $150. I'm done. She hauls a$$, rumbles and roars and looks....well you decide...

I know it is all said and done.....But did you flip the RUN switch? The fuel pak will not turn on unless you have the run switch on.

I did. Actually, I think I might have tweaked it a bit trying to cram it in under the seat! Don't think that's actually my fault though...it was sold as one that will fit a Nightster.
